Overview
• The Highland Council voted to remove the 'Spaces for People' interventions.
• The Walking, Wheeling, Cycling lane was promptly removed.
• But the 2-way traffic will not be restored until December.
• In effect, this is a 3-month roadworks project on Castle Road.
• People with cycles are now using the pavement (and walking or cycling there).
• The already narrow single pavement cannot cope with the increased congestion.
• This disadvantages wheelchair users and blind or visually impared people most.
• The Highland Council should immediately create a contra flow cycling lane.
• This will benefit cyclists but, more importantly, help disabled people.
