David Alston and City Bridge

[David Alston - Final minute of speech - 09 May 2013]
"...
we've subjected it to internal and external scrutiny,
and we've subjected it to the democratic process.
We've gone the extra mile on all of that.
And at the end of the day
this is a personal comment, it seems to me a rather simple issue.
Inverness has the fortune to be built around a beautiful river.
It has three bridges [Grant St, Blackfriar's, Bridge St] but they have got limited capacity.
The town has flourished and grown and it's grown to the West.
It doesn't need a by-pass to the West.
It needs a new river crossing in the City. It needs a City Bridge.
A City Bridge which serves all of the people of the City
giving them access to all of the facilities of the City whether
they're on the North or the South of the river.
It is a Bridge that unites Inverness
and we should remain united in our resolve as a Council
to give the people of Inverness and the people of the Highlands that crossing."
